Saws Key is a short action-puzzle game where getting the key does not mean victory. Instead, it is just the beginning of a more complex challenge: collecting food to open the real door to the next level. By adding a second layer of tasks after the “key,” the game has turned the familiar path of puzzle games upside down, forcing players to think more strategically instead of just “collect and move on.”
Initially, the player will be required to control the character to approach and get the yellow key, which is the symbolic image of opening the door. But when this happens, a new mechanism is activated: food (usually bread, fried chicken...) will appear in the level, and you are forced to collect all of it to be able to actually open the door.
Interestingly, many levels intentionally “trap” the player by placing the key in an easy-to-reach location, but after getting it, the food is behind a series of chainsaws, and deep holes. Without a strategy from the beginning, the player can easily lose a life after thinking they are close to victory.
Unlike many “torture” platformers, the saw blade in Saw’s Key moves at a fixed rhythm. This allows good players to “program their mind” to calculate the right time to pass. The game does not force you to react like a machine but encourages you to learn and memorize the movement cycle.
Some levels require you to go back the path you have passed after you have obtained the key or food. This requires the player to remember the traps and safe times when passing through and then calculate the way back without getting into an accident.
The game has no time limit, but the feeling of being “hunted” is always present because every mistake is immediately punished by starting over from the beginning. This is the element that creates a feeling of mild tension, enough to keep the player on the screen.
Saw's Key is a simple yet challenging game that requires you to be quick and strategic. Each level is a game of timing, memory, and patience. Collecting both keys and food keeps the game from being predictable or monotonous. If you’re looking for a short, entertaining game that will make you sweat every time you miss a beat, Saws Key is worth a try. No complicated graphics are required—just the right timing; a tap on the screen can do the trick.
